AIMMS (Advanced Integrated Multidimensional Modeling Software) model saved in a text format; contains an operations model created using the AIMMS modeling language; similar to an .AMB file, but saved as an ASCII text file instead of a binary file. AIMMS is an advanced development environment that offers algebraic modeling language, and its language is mainly used to describe data and output reports. A file using the AIM file extension contain an operations model using the AIMMS modeling language, and is saved as an ASCII text file, as opposed to a binary file. When AIMMS users handle a flat model description, the project will be saved as an ASCII file with the .aim file extension. The significance of saving the model using the AIM file extension becomes apparent, when exchange of case files or data sets is required. All data must be exported to a text file that is readable by AIMMS, and at the same time, understood by the user. By using the AIM file extension, a file can be opened and viewed using the text editor or the View command. The user, because of the ASCII format, could then make modifications to names and descriptions. If files were saved using a binary format then it would be readable only within AIMMS.
AIM files are launch files used in instant messaging software. Files with the AIM extension are text files that have been opened while logged into the messaging program. The data is stored in a normal text format and may be modified with the appropriate software tools.
