What is this cpgz file?

Compressed archive that combines the Copy In, Copy Out (.CPIO) archive format and gzip (.GZ) compression; similar to a .TGZ file, which incorporates both an uncompressed .TAR container and gzip compression; most often used on Unix-based systems such as Linux and Mac OS X. CPGZ files are sometimes created when you double-click a .ZIP file in Mac OS X. Upon opening the ZIP file, a new file with the same name but the ".cpgz" extension is created. Then, when you decompress the CPGZ file, it gives you back a copy of the original ZIP file. This loop is caused because ZIP file is corrupt, likely because the download didn't complete or because the original ZIP file was not compressed correctly. To fix this problem, try re-downloading the ZIP file again. NOTE: On Linux and Mac OS X systems, you can create and extract CPGZ files using the ditto command line program.
