MPEG-4 type video file with low resolution, hence the acronym in the name Low Resolution Video; produced by a number of action cameras such as later models of the GoPro HERO3 in parallel with the original high resolution video file. LRV files are created so as to make the video editing process require less computer power as well as for preview purposes on the phone and tablet GoPro applications, for playback via wifi or simply as the streaming buffer when a smartphone is used as a control device. LRV files can be edited by users with moderately powerful computers, and then replaced by the original, high resolution video before the final rendering process is started. LRV file sizes are constrained to 240p29.970 regardless of the settings on the camera, and the video's proportions are 432x240. To open and view any LRV file, simply rename the file to .mp4 and open it with any application that can open .MPEG4 video files, as in the list below.
