The MDL file extension is used to signify spreadsheet files created in the CA-Complete! spreadsheet program. MDL files can be edited with the appropriate software.
Model file used by Warcraft III, a real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard Entertainment; stores a 3D model, including objects, meshes, and textures for buildings and units; allows text-based editing of model properties before generating a binary .MDX file used by Warcraft III. MDL files use a nested structure to create model properties. For example, a material element may include a layer property which in turn defines a transparent property for the layer. NOTE: MDL files are the text version of MDX 3D model binary files. They can be converted to the MDX format using the MDLX Converter program. From there, you can use several modeling tools to edit the model.
The Simulink software from Mathworks also uses the MDL file extension. Simulink is used to create simulations and models. The software creates designs that are meant to be used for embedded or dynamic systems. Simulink comes with block libraries that allow users to create models as well as to test them. The models created by the program are saved with the file extension MDL. Models with the .mdl file extension are used for a number of processes such as controls, signal processing, communications, image and video processing.
Half-Life model, Quake model file. The MDL file extension is also attached to models used by the video game Half-Life. Half-Life is a first-person shooter game wherein players have to fight in an alternate science fiction world. The program references files with the MDL file extension to be able to show the player graphics that are used in the game.
