Files with the PPK extension identify a system file used with the PuTTY utility used for SSH and Telnet. The PPK files store messages and system data used to connect clients through the Telnet and SSH protocol. PPK files can be opened and edited with the PuTTY utility.

PPK files are used by PuTTY, a free SSH and Telnet client. To set the PPK file for authentication, choose Connection ? SSH ? Auth from the PuTTY Configuration menu and then select Browse... for the "Private key file for authentication" option.
