The RSC file extension is often used for resource files. A resource file may contain a collection of icons, menus, dialog boxes, strings tables, user-defined binary data and other types of items. Most notable are resource archives used in Symbian OS, or icon packs from Macintosh.
Compiled resource file used by applications of Symbian OS, an open source operating system designed for touchscreen devices, mobile devices, and smartphones; contains resources that are compiled from .RSS files into a binary format. RSC files comprise a finished Symbian application together with an .APP file. They allow application developers to change the program resources without having to recompile the APP file again. This can be useful when localizing the application to different languages. Nokia Web Runtime plug-ins, which allow users to compile RSC files, are available for Aptana Studio, Adobe Dreamweaver, and Microsoft Visual Studio.

MicroStation Symbology Resource Files have an extension .RSC and default files are installed with the MicroStation product. They are files that contain many MicroStation fonts and line styles. A resource file is used when a font or line style lookup file is selected to match LISCAD fonts and line styles with MicroStation fonts and line styles.
