ZoneAlarm is a line of software that was developed to protect the user's system from security threats. The security suite combines multiple programs that offer protection from malware. The applications, processes, and benefits included in the suite are:* superior performance and compatibility;* SmartDefense Service;* wireless PC protection;* game mode;* auto-learn;* operating system firewall;* network and program firewall;* identity theft protection;* anti-spam;* anti-phishing;* anti-spyware;* and antivirus. The version of the program, which is compatible with Windows 2000 and XP, also adds functions such as parental control, e-mail security, IM protection, privacy protection and spy site blocking. The Mailsafe function of the ZoneAlarm program uses the file extension ZOM. Files with the .zom file extension contain the resources needed by ZoneAlarm programs that protect the user's e-mail from malware. Viruses are often transmitted as e-mailed attachments. Files with the ZOM file extension are used to scan e-mail attachments. Files with the file extension .zom also hold links to descriptions of malware that the user should know. The program uses the resources stored with the ZOM file extension to check e-mail attachments for malware. The ZOM file extension is also attached to archives created by Amiga. Amiga is a family of personal computers that was released by the Amiga Corporation. The computers were developed and first released in the 1980's. Commodore International later bought the company. The computer had its own operating system called AmigaOS.The operating system comes with its own series of programs such as a compression system. Files with the .zom file extension are attached to compressed files. Translating data into a shorter set of characters creates compressed files. Such compressed files have a smaller file size than the ones in its original format. Files with the .zom file extension can then be decompressed so that they are converted to their original format. Files with the ZOM file extension contain encoded information that can then be transmitted and subsequently decoded so that it reverts to its original format. Files with the ZOM file extension revert to their original format once they are decoded and decompressed.
